The images used for the postcards were taken during the visit of President Gordon B. Hinckley and Elder M. Russell Ballard to the Joseph Smith Monument in Sharon, Vermont on December 22 and 23, 2005.
This kind of event only happens once in a hundred years.
The United States Postal Service issued an unprecedented Joseph Smith commemorative cancellation stamp which was only officially able to be used at the Sharon, Vermont Post Office from December 23, 2005 until January 23, 2006 (30 days). The commemorative cancellation has been hand stamped on each of the postcards. Click here to see a close up on the commemorative cancellation stamp.
Postcards must have stamps on them that pre-dated the December 23, 2005 date. In the mean time an increase in postage rates was issued and an additional one cent stamp was required to be added to the postcards.
Each postcard measures 3 3/4 x 5 11/16 inches (95.25 mm x 144.46 mm).
Postcards are only sold in sets of four. Click here to see a view of each of the postcards. Very limited quantities are available and then they will be gone. These commemoratives are already collector’s items and will only increase in value in the years to come.
These postcards make a unique and personal gift and a great memento to remember the past year of celebration of the Prophet Joseph’s 200th Birthday Anniversary.
