On December 23, 1805-Joseph Smith was born in Sharon, Windsor, County, Vermont.
On December 23, 1905-Joseph F. Smith came and dedicated the new 38 ½ foot granite monument to honor the Prophet Joseph’s centennial birthday.
On December 23, 2005-Two hundred years after the birth of the Prophet Joseph, President Gordon B. Hinckley and Elder M. Russell Ballard came to Sharon to lead the bicentennial celebration of the Prophet’s birth. A special broadcast originated in Sharon and went across the globe that historic day.

In an unprecedented move to join in the celebration, the United States Postal Service issued a special bicentennial commemorative cancellation stamp only given at the Sharon, Vermont Post Office. Photographic images were taken during the Prophet’s visit to Sharon, Vermont which have now been made into postcards.
These postcards have been stamped and now hand cancelled by the United States Postal Service with the special Joseph Smith Commemorative cancellation. Because of the limited time of the cancellation, the commemoratives are extremely rare and are already collector’s items.
A set of four different postcards were created from images taken the day of the arrival of President Hinckley and Elder Ballard and have the special commemorative cancellation stamp affixed to them. Cards with the special, rare cancellation mark will only be sold as a set of four. A maximum of twenty sets per customer will be allowed. Cost of one set of the four hand-cancelled commemorative post cards: $16.95 plus $3.95 Shipping and handling. Add $1.50 additional shipping and handling for each set ordered (maximum of twenty sets allowed per customer).
An event like this only comes around once in a hundred years. These commemorative postcards will become treasured collector's items and are great for journals, scrapbooks, collections and/or gifts for grandchildren who may have attended this event via satellite.
