Pictures Are Worth A Million Words

A picture is worth a thousand (or million) words. This was a most powerful message. Thank you.

Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square: On Tour in America, 2009
By Robb Cundick

Kudos to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Thanks a lot Brother Cundick for your enjoyable article on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I love this Choir and have followed the stories/articles on these recent concert tours.

I really appreciate the last portion of your article where you said what impressed you most about the tour and being with the members of the choir was the feeling of love. I wish we could all feel that amongst all Church members first, and with anyone we come in contact with, second. These times are very hard andchallenging, and we Latter-Day Saints have our own lessons to learn in practicing the pure love of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Kudos to the choir and those involved in these concerts. May you continue to convey the message of peace, unity and love to the entire world.

Mormon Tabernacle Choir Lifted Our Spirits

I would like to personally thank the choir for their uplifting performance in St. Louis, Missouri, which came at a difficult time for our family, and especially my wife, Linda.

We had purchased our tickets in March and for a couple of very modest means it was quite an expenditure of funds, but we decided this was a "once in a lifetime event" that could not be missed. I had never seen the choir in person and my wife had seen it only once before when she was a small child, though we do watch it regularly on television in Music and the Spoken Word and General Conference.

Little were we to know how we would need the spiritual boost the choir would deliver in June.

One evening, five weeks before the scheduled choir appearance, my wife began to exhibit severe mental confusion following our daily exercise outing at the local community center (I have had three heart attacks and an exercise regime is part of my recovery plan). She began by asking the same questions of me over and over again. I took her to the emergency room and she underwent a number of tests. In the ER she could not answer correctly questions about who the current president of the country is, what her phone number is, and she kept asking me where she was and how she got there. Eventually she was diagnosed with something called total global amnesia, which despite its frightening name, is actually a fairly mild case of short term memory loss brought on by several things, including strenuous exercise. Hermemory returned about six hours after onset and other than not remembering anything that happened during those six hours, she has completely recovered.

Then one month later, her position at the areahospital where she worked was eliminated and she was out of work. This happened one week before the scheduled concert.

So that Saturday, June 21, a date that had been eagerly anticipated for months by my wife and I, became much more than a concert. We settled into our seats on the floor early and just absorbed the experience. Our souls resonated with the music and the spirit enveloped us with comfort.

Thank you so much Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Lloyd Newell and Orchestra at Temple Square.

We may have some difficult days ahead as my wife seeks other employment, but the uplifting and inspirational memory of that beautiful June evening with your music will remain with us forever.

Marriage and the Parting of the Red Sea
By H. Wallace Goddard

Article Published at Just the Right Time

I love all of H. Wallace Goddard's articles. This one was special to me as well, but was published at a critical time for my struggling marriage, so I thank all who were involved in the process. You have been an instrument in Heavenly Father’s personal blessings to me. Thank you.

We Must Rely on the Lord

I wanted to say thank you for this article. Even though it is about marriage, and my marriage is not as good as some, but not so awful either—I have come to the conclusion that most marriages that last do so because of commitment to the institution of marriage.

So, why am I writing? Because this article said something I needed to hear today. My husband and I are senior missionaries in a state far from home. I am discouraged, and was trying to figure out who I needed to blame for this, but the only encouragementI could come up with was thatI needed to work harder. We needed to be out there finding, teaching and baptizing. We need to have more commitment and more faith. We need to rely on the Lord, and let him give us the help we need.

We were relying on our own arms to do it all. Here we are trying to be teachers of the Gospel, and we are not really utilizing it. We can showfaith, love, charity and kindness to these people and let God do the rest.

I’m Sharing This Article With Many Others

What a great article. There is no doubt that marriage is under severe attack—both the very institution and individual unions. The title of this article will stay in my mind for a very long time. I have already shared this with a few family members and plan to share it with many more. Thank you for the great article. I find it a wonderful tool.
