Urgent: Help Collect Signatures for Colorado's Marriage Amendment

If the pioneers could pull handcarts across the great Rocky Mountains, surely the Latter-day Saints of today can rally to help Coloradans for Marriage collect 2,000 signatures by July 31st.  Coloradans for Marriage Director Jon Paul has worked with churches since the petition drive started in March and has specifically asked Katie Witt, a Latter-day Saint who works for Coloradan's for Marriage and the chairman of Family Leader Colorado, if he can count on members of the LDS Church to collect 2,000 signatures.

We hope that answer be an emphatic YES!  We all know that when Latter-day Saints are given an important task, we do it.  If you have friends or family in Colorado, please ask them to help collect signatures during this home stretch by passing on this link http://www.marriageforcolorado.com/index.jsp to Coloradans for Marriage.

This request for you to gather signatures for the petition drive is not a casual one.  With only two weeks to go, the effort in Colorado is behind its target.

It is easy to gather signatures.  Just get a petition and keep a clipboard in your car.  Ask your neighbors and friends.  You may not use the Church building or parking lot to collect petition signatures, and you may not use ward lists to gather signatures.  This is not in any way connected to the Church, but is a personal invitation to be anxiously engaged.

If you live in Colorado please contact Katie Witt at katiewitt@comcast.net and make the
marriage amendment petition a top priority.  As Latter-day Saints and good citizens we understand the importance of protecting marriage and this is our opportunity to make a difference.  Remember, there will already be a domestic partnership referendum on the Colorado's ballot this November.

As the November elections fast approaches, Colorado is the last state to still have an opportunity to put a marriage amendment on the ballot.  Let's rally to make it happen.
