Amendment Goes to the House: Sign the Marriage Protection Petition
By Maurine Jensen Proctor

Click here to sign the Defense of Marriage petition.

This month the Marriage Protection amendment will be voted on in the House of Representatives. It is sponsored by Representative Marilyn Musgrave of Colorado, with 128 co-sponsors. Family Leader Network presented a petition signed by 23,000 Meridian readers to the leadership of the Senate when it was voted on there. These signatures were gathered in a remarkable 158 hours. Now we want to present this same letter to the House leadership before the vote.

We currently have more than 29,000 people who have chosen to stand for marriage. Can we raise that number to 40,000 before the House vote? If you have signed before, there is no need for you to sign again.

Please sign this petition and also contact your representative by clicking here. You can either call their office or email them from this link.

You may think that you contacting your representative makes no difference, but those who are Washington insiders know that every person’s voice makes a difference. They note if people feel strongly about an issue.

Won’t you also add your name to those who are receiving the free email from Family Leader? In these email we keep you up to date on the latest issues regarding family, marriage, and religious freedom.

Family Leader will deliver this petition to the House leadership before the vote on the Marriage Protection Amendment in July.

Can Meridian readers gather 40,000 signatures?

This is the text of the petition:

Dear Congressman,

As a citizen concerned about the future of our nation and the well-being of the rising generation, I ask you to support the Marriage Protection Amendment when considered by the House of Representatives this July.  The strength of a nation depends on the stability of its families, and an overwhelming majority of Americans are committed to traditional marriage.  As citizens, we deserve the right to have our voices heard, rather than have the institution of marriage undermined by court decisions as it was in Massachusetts, Maryland, and Nebraska.  Our children deserve both a mother and a father, and diluting the social institution that makes that possible is an assault upon the future.  A vote for the Marriage Protection Amendment is a vote for our children. Thank you.

Sincerely,
