General Authority to Address Conference
on Homosexuality
SALT LAKE
CITY, Utah — Evergreen International, the leading organization for
Latter-day Saints dealing with unwanted homosexuality, will be holding
its sixteenth annual conference at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building
in Salt Lake City on September 15 and 16, 2006.
Elder Rex
D. Pinegar will offer the keynote address at a special Saturday
morning session aimed at reaching hundreds of local unit leaders
with information about the Church’s resources for same-sex attracted
members. On Friday morning the keynote speaker will be Alan Chambers,
the president of Exodus International — the largest information
and referral ministry in the world addressing homosexual issues.
The two-day
conference will offer workshops by leading clinical experts, respected
Latter-day Saint teachers, and individuals who have been successful
in living the doctrines and standards of the Church while confronting
difficult same-sex feelings in their own personal lives.
“Homosexual
feelings affect thousands of Latter-day Saints,“ notes David Pruden
the Executive Director of Evergreen International. “The Church is
committed to assisting those who wish to live gospel standards,
and Evergreen International is here to offer resources and information
to families, local unit leaders, and interested individuals.
“Each year
Church leaders, experienced therapists, and outstanding national
leaders in the field of homosexuality gather in Salt Lake City for
this conference. In a time when there is so much interest in the
issues surrounding same-sex attraction, this is a wonderful opportunity
to accurately represent the hope and help that are available to
members of our faith community.”

is one of the nation’s leading speakers and authors on gender issues.
His personal story as a gay teen and young adult who overcame unwanted
homosexuality has inspired audiences throughout the world. He is
