The
Hague Netherlands Temple Opens Doors to Public
The first temple
built in the Netherlands by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints is nearing completion and will be available for public viewing
during an open house scheduled to begin Saturday, 17 August 2002.
The open house
will continue until Saturday, 31 August 2002, with the exception
of Sunday, 18 August, and Sunday, 25 August. At the conclusion of
the open house, the temple will be closed to the public. The temple
will be dedicated Sunday, 8 September 2002, in four dedicatory sessions
attended by members of the Church in good standing.
After the dedication,
the temple will serve more than 13,000 members of the Church in
the temple district that covers the Netherlands, Belgium and parts
of France.
The Hague Netherlands
Temple, which lies below sea level, is built of polished granite.
It is of classic modern design with a total of almost 14,500 square
feet. It is located in Zoetermeer, a suburb outside The Hague.
For the more
than 11 million members of the Church of Jesus Christ in 162 countries
and territories around the world, temples are considered houses
of the Lord where Christs teachings are reaffirmed through
marriage, baptism and other sacred ordinances that unite families
for eternity.
Temples differ
from meetinghouses where members typically meet for Sunday worship
services and midweek social activities.
After the dedication, The Hague Netherlands Temple will be the 114th
working temple built by the Church.
