Another Testament of Christ

Cabinetry, wood, ceramic, paper, leather, and prints, 1999

This treasure chest is made in the shape of a pre-Columbian Meso-American pyramid. The fifteen front drawers contain handmade books representing each of the present books of the Book of Mormon. Illustrations from these books are displayed on the wall. The decorative drawer pulls imitate Mayan glyphs. The side drawers represent the sealed portion of the plates and cannot be opened. The glyph in the niche under the sun translates to "Holiness to His Name." Note also the Quetzalcoatl motifs as a symbol of Christ and the rod around the lower section, representing the iron rod or the word of God.
